A Half Truth is Still a Whole Lie

An excerpt of my keynote remarks from the Alabama African American Civil Rights Heritage Sites Consortium Summer Convening

* My apologies if this appears twice in your inbox.

I was honored to give the keynote address, and to be named the Storyteller-in-Residence, at the Alabama African American Civil Rights Heritage Sites Consortium 2023 Summer Convening. My speech took place at the historic St. Paul United Methodist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, and my remarks centered on retaining hope and honoring the ways Black ancestors and elders have taken liberty since we set foot on this soil.

My folks affirmed me and loved on me the whole way through, and I was so grateful to be embraced by fellowship.

If you are able, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to AACRHSC. The organization provides vital assistance to sites around Alabama that were integral to the Freedom Movement from which we all benefitted. We are who we are because of the work done in these churches, schools, businesses, and homes, so preserving these spaces is essential to preserving our history.

Thank you for watching my words🙏🏽

Blessings,

Jamila
